Five members of SeaparkAC took part in the annual Les Jones Memorial 10km race, the race which attracts a mixed field of runners was held on Friday Night at the Mary Peters track and commemorates the late Les Jones who had been Secretary of the NIAF for many years. The race got under way at 7.30pm to the sound of a whistle blown by Dame Mary Peters, 152 runners ran 2 and a bit laps around the track before heading out onto the Malone road before turning left, after a short distance the runners turned left again along the narrow toe path to Shaws Bridge the route then took a sharp up hill climb on its way back to the track, the race finished in true athletics style by running a full lap of the Mary Peters Track.  Leading the Seapark team was Gary Connolly placed 62nd overall in a time of 43min 22 sec, Doug Heys finishing 67th 44min 21 sec, Mathew Holland finishing 71st 44min 33sec, Colin Alexander finishing 84th 45min 56 sec and Gail Rinchey finishing 119th 50min 21 sec. Well done to all.

Best of luck Lanzarote style

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Best of luck to Bryce Irvine who is on his way to take part in the World renowned Lanzarote Ironman on the 19th May 2007. It consists of a 2.4mile swim followed by a 112mile bike ride finishing off with a 26.2 marathon. Some of us train long a hard just to do number 3! He’s been running for SeaparkAC now for over 6months and has brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm and competitiveness ;-) into the club. Good luck from all of us at SeaparkAC.

In case you didn’t get enough!

Germanic run for SeaparkAC

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Two members of Carrickfergus based SeaparkAC travelled to Germany to take part in the recent Hamburg Marathon, temperatures soared as the competitors lined up for the gruelling 26.2 mile race. Frank Weingarten a native from Germany but studying at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown joined the Seapark club in 2006 and having trained hard with fellow club runners Frank took to the start with a personal best in mind but unfortunately the weather took its toll and he finished the race in a time of 3hrs 56mins.

Andrew Weir from Carrickfergus also lined up with a personal best target in mind, the weather this time helped Andrew to smash his target and he finished in a time of 3hrs 35min. Well done to both Athletes for taking part.
